ABUJA, NIGERIA – Four police officers are in trouble after allegedly extorting *₦53,000* from the very man whose job is to fight corruption Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN), Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
According to the FCT Police Command, the officers abandoned their official duty posts and mounted an unauthorized checkpoint* around the Banex area in Abuja. There, they were reportedly stopping motorists and demanding money.
Unfortunately for them, one of the vehicles they flagged down belonged to the ICPC Chairman.
The officers allegedly forced Dr. Aliyu to a POS operator, where he withdrew ₦53,000, paid the transaction charges, and handed the cash to them. The money was then shared among the officers not knowing who their victim was.
“A Gang of Criminals”*
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, did not mince words. He described the officers as “a gang of criminals” who had brought embarrassment to the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the CP, the officers were declared wanted, tracked down, arrested, and are currently facing *disciplinary proceedings and further investigation*.

The incident has once again raised concerns about illegal checkpoints and police extortion in Abuja, even as the Force promises to deal decisively with erring personnel.
As for Dr. Aliyu, the ICPC Chairman who literally funded his own extortionists, he walked away with a story and a ₦53,000 receipt.
