Band!ts Giveaway Scam: Nigerian Man Alleges Bandits Sent ₦100k, Now Demanding ₦100m

A Nigerian man has cried out online after claiming that a TikTok live “giveaway” ended with him receiving ₦100,000, only to be confronted later with a demand for ₦100 million.

The man, identified as Odumayo Olufemi, made the allegation in a video circulating on social media. He narrated that on June 6, he joined a TikTok live session where the hosts promised to send money to users who followed their page. According to him, many viewers treated the offer as a joke and followed the page without suspicion. He said several participants, including himself, later confirmed receiving payments after following the account.

Olufemi stated that the situation took a disturbing turn shortly after the money was credited. He claimed he received an email demanding ₦100 million from him. “As soon as I received the money I got an email. Nigerians, please come to my rescue. They are demanding ₦100,000,000 from me,” he said in the video. He further alleged that other viewers who also received money during the live session were being contacted with the same demand.

The incident has triggered warnings across social media, with users cautioning against participating in unverified online giveaways. Cybersecurity experts have repeatedly advised the public to be wary of “too-good-to-be-true” offers on platforms like TikTok, noting that fraudsters often use small cash gifts to gain trust before demanding larger sums or threatening victims with blackmail and legal action.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no independent confirmation of the claims or the identity of those behind the TikTok account. Efforts to verify the authenticity of the video and the alleged email demand were unsuccessful.

The public is advised to report suspicious online activities to relevant law enforcement agencies and to avoid sharing personal or financial information during unverified social media promotions.
