An abroad-based Nigerian woman has revealed why she ended her four-year marriage, saying she chose to return to single life after a bitter dispute over money.
In a viral video on X, formerly Twitter, she said the couple had operated a strict 50/50 arrangement since relocating abroad, sharing household bills and responsibilities equally. But trouble started when her husband demanded a share of a £4,000 backdated payment she received from her company.
“Since we are doing 50/50, yes we are doing it, but now you still want to collect part of my money,” she said. “We have been sharing everything equally, so why is my own personal money now a problem?”
According to her, the conflict escalated when her husband calculated how much she should contribute from the windfall, despite their agreement to split only household expenses. “We are doing 50/50, but you still want to control my money. You even calculated how much I should bring from my personal earnings. That was my breaking point,” she added.
Her confession has since divided opinions online, reigniting debate on whether 50/50 financial arrangements can survive marriage pressures, especially among Nigerians living abroad.
