Wike Hints on Fubara’s Plan to Switch Political Camp Upon Return to Nigeria

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The political chessboard in Rivers State may be heading for a major reset as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will rejoin the Rainbow Coalition upon his return from abroad.

Speaking to journalists on the development, Wike said the governor personally reached out to him before traveling out of the country.

“Gov Fubara called me before he traveled out of the country. He will be joining the Rainbow Coalition once he returns,” the FCT Minister stated.

The Rainbow Coalition, widely regarded as Wike’s political structure, has grown into a formidable alliance of parties and interest groups positioning for future elections in Rivers. Wike’s announcement comes at a time when political realignment is intensifying across the state ahead of 2027.

Political observers say Fubara’s expected return to the coalition could mark the end of the prolonged rift between both leaders that has defined Rivers politics since 2023. A reunion would consolidate influence, unify structures, and present a stronger front as permutations for the next general elections gather pace.

Details of Governor Fubara’s itinerary abroad remain under wraps, but sources close to Government House described the trip as a blend of official engagements and private commitments.

As at press time, the Rivers State Government had not issued an official confirmation. However, Wike’s statement has already ignited heated debate across political circles, with stakeholders describing it as a potential turning point for power dynamics in the state.

If confirmed, the development could reshape alliances, calm tensions, and set the tone for political cooperation in Rivers in the months ahead, although the fate of Fubara’s followers remains uncertain.
