Which EPL team should take a punt on Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru?

So far, Henry Onyekuru has failed to live up to the expectations he set as a youngster.

The ex-Everton man has taken the path of a journeyman with his agent already confirming that the 25-year-old is set to move again this summer from Olympiakos.

In spite of having three years remaining on his contract, the Greek Super League champions and the former Everton winger have decided to part ways.

One goal in 27 appearances in all competitions for Onyekuru after his move to Greece from Monaco was disappointing.

While the talent is very much there, it is surprising that Onyekuru is finding it hard to perform at club level.

However, allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at what Onyekuru offers and which EPL team should take a punt on him.

Onyekuru has bags of ability on the ball. His close control and first touch especially in one-on-one situations are excellent. He is also a fast runner and has the mentality to be more than just a pacy outlet for his team.

He is also athletic which enables him to deliver his defensive duties regularly. So which team needs a wideman and should take a punt on the Nigerian?

Aston Villa

While Aston Villa has great attacking options, it has been a problem trying to stretch teams. Bringing in a new winger who can run at players would be ideal.

Even if the player is just to switch out for Emiliano Buendia. They need a bit of pace and spark as another option.

Brighton & Hove

Many of Graham Potter’s players can play in both midfield and attack, making his team tactically adaptable.

However, the manager needs a natural right-winger with only returning loanee Abdallah Sima his only natural option after his return from the championship

Everton

Last season, Frank Lampard’s team struggled in a number of categories. The Toffees lost their creativity after losing James Rodriguez and Gylfi Sigurdsson at once.

Despite Demarai Gray’s initial spark, there isn’t enough quality on the flanks. Only Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon are options.

As an option, Aston Villa would do well to take a punt on the Nigerian as Gerrard’s tactics need a pacy winger.

The tactics would suit him as a super-sub with opposition defenders tiring out. For Everton, Lampard does not have a set formation and Onyekuru does not fit Brighton’s possession-based game.
