*Concerned youths ask Oyetola to void selection
Kingmakers in Ikirun, Osun State, on Wednesday said before Prince Olalekan Akadiri was elected new monarch, Ifa oracle, Muslim and Christian clerics were consulted.
Prince Akadiri, from the Obaara Ruling House, emerged Akinrun-elect after six out of seven kingmakers voted for him last Friday.
However, after his emergence, Gboleru Ruling House and a section of the Obaara Ruling House accused some top officials of the Osun State Government of manipulation and demanded that the selection process should be put on hold.
But addressing journalists on Wednesday in Ikirun, the Odofin of Ikirun, Chief Rasheed Diekola, said before the kingmakers reached the decision to vote Akadiri, they had consulted widely, especially among the three main religions to know which of the 21 princes vying for the throne would be best for the position.
Going over how Akadiri was elected, Diekola, who spoke on behalf of other Kingmakers and palace chiefs said, “Seven kingmakers in the community voted and one person voted for another prince, while six of us voted Prince Akadiri.
“The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs wrote to Ifelodun Local Government Area to kick-start the process and the council responded by calling the appropriate ruling house and informing the kingmakers.
“The LG directed interested princes to pick a form at the local government and 21 got the form to contest for the stool. On the day the election would hold, the princes and other stakeholders gathered at a hall in the premises of the Ifelodun LGA. CAN and the Muslim community sent representatives, who were also present.
“The chairman of the LGA inquired from the Obaara Ruling House if they have a consensus candidate and they all said no. There in the presence of all, they all pledged to abide by the outcome of the excercise. The six of us resolved to vote Akadiri after we consulted Ifa, Christians, and Muslim clerics. The three religions picked him as the best among the aspirants.”
Meanwhile, a group, Concerned Ikirun Youths, has asked the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to declare the process that named Prince Akadiri as Akinrun-elect null and void.
Led by Oluwafemi Olawale from Obaara Ruling House, the group also demanded while speaking to journalists in Osogbo also demanded, “That the government should set up an investigation committee to investigate the process and the claims of the parties involved.”
