Transfer News: Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno to join Fulham for £8m. The Arsenal goalkeeper has been linked with Fulham since the transfer window began.  David Ornstein reports that Arsenal and Fulham have reached an agreement for the transfer of Bernd Leno for a transfer fee of £8m

Sports analyst, Fabrizio Romano reports that Bernd Leno will undergo medical tests and sign as new Fulham goalkeeper this week, and that personal terms have also been agreed, after Fulham preferred the services of Arsenal’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno to Neto.

It would put an end to a four-year stay for the 30-year-old, who has just one-year remaining on his deal at the Emirates Stadium remaining. Leno joined in 2018 from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for roughly £22.5million.

Since making that switch, the shot-stopper has managed 125 competitive appearances for the Gunners, keeping 37 clean sheets. While the goalkeeper has had to face some tough moments at the club, he was a crucial part of the Arsenal side that won the 2020 FA Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

However, the past season has seen under Arteta, Bernd Leno has slowly slipped down the pecking order. The German saw his place as a guaranteed name on the team sheet change to that of a backup and cup option, making just eight appearances across all competitions last season.

That has largely been down to the form of Aaron Ramsdale, who joined the club from Sheffield United last summer for roughly £25million. The 24-year-old managed to make 37 competitive appearances last season, keeping 14 clean sheets and even earning an England senior national team call-up.

With Bernd Leno reaching a time that is often seen as a peak for a goalkeeping career, the need for regular game time is clear. The incoming Matt Turner will likely take up a number two role once the German makes his move to Fulham official.
