Three Plateau youths killed in night ambush

Suspected bandits have killed three youths in Plateau State.

The victims were said to be going to Tyaana village in the Riyom Local Government Area of the state when the bandits attacked them, killing three persons on the spot while several others sustained injuries.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders, Solomon Mwantiri, confirmed the killings to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

Mwantiri said the attack happened on Monday night.

He said, “Our people are mourning following a sad event that occurred in our community. I am on my way to the hospital where the youth who were injured are receiving treatment. It was on Monday around 9.30pm that some youths were coming to Tyaana, Rahoss community, in Riyom LGA. Unknown to them, the attackers had laid in ambush for them.

“The attackers inflicted the surviving victims with machete cuts all over their bodies while they were trying to escape. But they succeeded in killing three of the youth. This was an unprovoked attack.”

The youth leader said the incident had been reported to security agents.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Ubah Ogaba, promised to get back to our correspondent after getting details of the incident.

He had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
