Prominent Nigerians have wished the Super Eagles of Nigeria well as they prepare to face the Pharaohs of Egypt in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Tuesday.
Both teams who are drawn in Group D alongside Sudan and Guinea-Bissau will clash at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium.
Ahead of the clash, the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a post on social media, said the Super Eagles will always be champions however the pendulum swings.
“As our very own Super Eagles face the Pharaoh of Egypt today, in their first match at the AFCON competition in Cameroon, here’s wishing them the strength, the speed and the agility of an eagle, may they also soar like the eagles they are.
“Lagos and indeed the whole of Nigeria is rooting for them. We’re proud of them, and salute them for their dedication, hard work and resilience.
“However the pendulum swings, they are and will always be our Champions,” he wrote.
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said his “prayers are with the Nigeria Super Eagles as they begin their campaign at the #AFCON2021 against the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Stade Roumde Adjia, Garoua, #Cameroon. Good luck, Boys. Up Eagles!”
The immediate past President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, also wished the squad well.
He wrote, “As the AFCON begins today, I wish our Super Eagles a successful outing! #SoarSuperEagles, know that the entire nation is rooting for you!”
