Rivers United completed a double-over Enyimba after securing a 2-0 at the Adokiye Amiesiemaka Stadium on Easter Monday.
The Pride of Rivers won the first meeting in Aba 1-0 and proved their superiority over the Finidi George’s men with another important win in the second leg.
With the 2-0 win against Enyimba FC, Rivers United are now unbeaten in 12 consecutive NPFL matches. It is the longest unbeaten run in the NPFL this season.
It was all square for the opening 18 minutes until Ishaq Kayode was brought down in the box by an Enyimba defender and the referee had no choice but a signal for a penalty kick.
The forward then step up and converted the penalty to put his side in front. It was his 12th goal of the season.
Rivers United got their second of the game after 33 minutes. Chiamaka Madu was the man who doubled United’s lead as he complete a beautiful team move started by Nyima Nwagua.
Rivers United held on and see out the win as both sides failed to find the back of the net in the second half.
With the three points, Rivers United stretched their lead on top of the standing to four points, while Enyimba dropped to 9th with 32 points, after 23 matches played.
