A group of the Peoples Democratic Party members in Ekiti State, the PDP Patriots, on Wednesday, urged the party’s State Working Committee led by the acting Chairman, Lanre Omolase, to effectively take charge of the party with a view to putting things back in proper perspective to reposition it for victory in future elections.
The PDP Patriots’ acting Chairman, Bayo Awogbemi; and Secretary, Bola Agboola, who said the party’s loss in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti had left a sour taste in party members’ mouths, expressed the group’s readiness to rise to the occasion by channelling energy into mending fences among the PDP stakeholders with the view to restore the party’s glory in Ekiti and beyond.
Awogbemi and Agboola, in a statement titled ‘Aftermath of Ekiti 2022: The PDP Patriots emerge, vows to restore party’s glory’ issued after the group’s meeting in Ado Ekiti, said it was time for true lovers of the PDP to rise to the challenge by raising their voice.
He stated, “To this end, the PDP Patriots harps on the need for the SWC to take charge and paddle the party’s canoe at this crucial moment and that commitment to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP’s quest to rescue Nigeria from the claws of the All Progressives Congress and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) remains sacrosanct.”
Former Governor Ayodele Fayose has been the leader of the party in charge of its affairs.
But Awogemi and Agboola said, “We have reviewed the performance of our party in the last election, we know where our leaders got it wrong, but as much as we don’t want to wash our dirty linens in the public, we have vowed never to fold our arms, allow them take the driver’s seat and crash the vehicle anymore.
“The PDP Patriots is ready to ensure activities in Ekiti are put in proper perspective, we shall harness human and capital resources in ensuring PDP is restored to her place of pride.
“At inception, our party was an association that thrived on respect for divergent opinions, tolerance for diversities and passion for human and capital development; it is obvious that the Ekiti PDP today has taken a route completely antagonistic of these ethos. The PDP Patriots will ensure a detour henceforth,” they stated.
