Ranieri backs Troost-Ekong after Leicester blunder

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri has shown his support for William Troost-Ekong after the Super Eagles defender’s blunder resulted in Leicester’s first goal, claiming a 4-2 victory at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match against Chelsea, Ranieri said he was sure Troost-Ekong would never commit the same blunder again.

The Italian coach also asked for focus from his side.

“It’s focus – focus on the match,” Ranieri said.

“That was a mistake because he thought he was alone and said ‘okay I’ll leave the ball to the keeper’ but the keeper didn’t ask for the ball. Now I’m sure it never never can happen again because it would be very strange if it happened another time. I’m sure Will (Troost-Ekong) will be very focused and very determined in every match we play.”

He also said Troost-Ekong’s teammates have been giving him support and encouragement since the Sunday incident.

“I think this is the right way. Also, his teammates say ‘come on, that can happen’ we have to react.

“In life, people can slow down, but it’s important how they react and I’m sure Will (Troost-Ekong) will react very very well,” Ranieri added.
