President Bola Tinubu has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will now head the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
This move comes after Uzoka-Anite’s recent appearance at the National Assembly budget defense, where she faced criticism over the government’s handling of capital project funds.
Oyedele, a seasoned economist and accountant, previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading efforts to revamp Nigeria’s tax system.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen fiscal reforms and economic management.
The reshuffle is likely linked to concerns over the government’s fiscal performance, including delayed budget implementation and inability of the outgoing minister to defend the poor implementation and release of budgetary funds for capital projects.
