Men of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have confirmed rescuing seven kidnap victims during an exchange of gunfire with suspected kidnappers at the Pegi area of the FCT.

The operatives from the Pegi Division also gunned down a notorious kidnapper, Umar Bappa, aka Maishede Blakie, during the operation, while his gang members fled into the bush.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, items recovered include one AK-47 rifle, locally-made firearms, ammunition, 15 AK-47 magazines, suspected fake military camouflage, drugs, six mobile phones and N47,000 cash .

The Police further explained that the victims, who were rescued unhurt were taken to hospital for medical attention after which they were reunited with their families.

“Efforts are being intensified to arrest other members of the gang,” Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said.

The statement further stated that the command has commenced investigations into the reported abduction of a doctor and five others in Chikuku village of the FCT.
