Panel to determine compensation for Ogun market fire victims
Forty-eight hours after the fire outbreak at the Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Government has set up a nine-man committee to probe the incident, which claimed two lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The said in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kunle Somorin, on Tuesday that the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, constituted the committee.
The statement said the SSG, in a letter dated November 29, listed the names of members of the committee and the terms of reference.
The committee is expected to look into the causes of the inferno and come up with ways to prevent future occurrences.
The statement read in part, “The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Femi Ogunbanwo; while the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Political Affairs and Administration in the Governor’s Office, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, will serve as the secretary of the committee.

“Other members of the committee are the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Akin Adesanya; Commissioner for Transport, Gbenga Dairo; Commissioner for Rural Development, Oludotun Taiwo; his Women Affairs and Social Development counterpart, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government counterpart, Mr Bayo Ayorinde; the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the local and the Head of the state Task Force on Illegalities, Toyin Afolaogun, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.”
