Osimhen’s link to Newcastle : Would potential move to Magpies be a step up or down?

The transfer window is always up with so many twists and turns with many deals being completed and many more collapsing. Super Eagles hitman Victor Osimhen has been linked with a number of prestigious European teams.

Corriere dello Sport – Stadio claims that Newcastle United are the Premier League team most interested in signing Super Eagles’ most valuable player Osimhen this summer.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are also among the clubs linked with a move for the Nigerian international.

However, a deal for the Napoli striker seems unlikely for both Bayern Munich and Arsenal as both heavyweights have already signed Sadio Mane or expecting Gabriel Jesus to sign soon respectively.

Having been linked with the aforementioned European top-class clubs, if a move to Newcastle United thus materialises, would it be a step up or down for Nigeria’s most valuable player?

As is widely known, Newcastle was recently acquired by Saudi Arabian consortium and their new owners are extremely wealthy.

However, apart from the new riches coming into the Magpies, the club is a top-class traditional one in the English Premier League.

Comparing both clubs according to the major trophies won, Napoli have won the Scudetto twice, UEFA Cup once, the Italian cup six times and the Italian Super Cup twice.

Newcastle have won English top-flight 4 times, FA Cup 6 times, Inter-Cities Fairs Cup once and Community Shield once.

Both clubs have a similar number of major trophies with Napoli having eleven while Newcastle has 12. So on that front, Newcastle is not a step down from Napoli.

Stepping into the English Premier League with the Magpies will also propel Osimhen into more limelight with the huge audience who watch the Premier League as opposed to the Serie A.

This will help him showcase more of his talents for a bigger future move. On this front, Newcastle is not a step-down.

Newcastle is also starting a much bigger rebuild than Napoli in the most competitive league in the world.

Osimhen being the face of such a giant-sized rebuild as opposed to Napoli is commercially profitable for the Nigerian.

Lastly, in a financial sense, Newcastle will be able to offer the Nigerian a far between lucrative package than Napoli.

The revenue for Premier League clubs is far stronger than the Serie A. Football is a profession and the financial aspects are always important. On this front, Newcastle is not a step-down.

Allnigeriasoccer Verdict

While a move to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are more attractive, a move to Newcastle United is not in any way a step down to Napoli.
