Taiwo Awoniyi might be heading out of Union Berlin after one season of signing with the German Bundesliga club on a permanent deal from Liverpool, with reports suggesting there’s strong interest from the EPL.
Awoniyi is on the wish list of Nottingham Forest as a Summer transfer target according to Florian Plettenberg [SkySports].
The Nigerian has a €20 million release clause and is keen on a move and the English Premier League is his target.
Per Plettenberg News #Awoniyi: He’s keen to leave Union Berlin in summer. He wants to join a club in the Premier League. Nottingham is (next to Niakhaté) highly interested. Talks took place. For a move to #NFFC he can use a release clause of around €20m! Several clubs interested.
In 2021, Taiwo Awoniyi left Liverpool after six years, he joined the PL side as an 18 year-old, his failure to secure a work permit meant he did not play any official match for the Reds.
He penned a five-year contract last year as he returned to Union Berlin – having spent the previous season on loan at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Yet any deal that sees Awoniyi move from Union Berlin, Liverpool will get some percentage as sell-on clause.
Per Farrell Keeling [empireofthekop] Assuming that an interested party meets his reported release clause of £17.1m, Jurgen Klopp’s outfit would receive £1.7m from the 10% sell-on clause Michael Edwards previously installed in the deal that initially took him to Germany.
Last season the Forward registered 25 goal contributions in 43 games across all competitions.
