North Macedonia pulled off a historic win over Germany in the World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, March 31.
Eljif Elmas scored a late winner to seal the three points for North Macedonia after Gundogan’s penalty had cancelled out Goran Pandev’s opener on the stroke of half time.
The match is the last qualifier for their head coach, Joachim Low, and he couldn’t help but feel disappointed at his side’s poor display.
Low said after the match, “We’re obviously thoroughly disappointed. We looked tired, made mistakes and were slow going forward. Our opponents sat deep and we struggled to find a way to break them down.”
Germany midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, also said, “We all know that we cannot be losing a game like that. The way we conceded the goals was poor. This isn’t what we expect of ourselves and there’s no explanation for it. We all have to reach top form by the end of May.”
