The Nigerian Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) has it has created 400,000 jobs in various sectors of the agricultural value chains through the facilitation of a total of N101 billion from banks to fund the sector.

Its Managing Director, Aliyu Abdulhameed, who spoke on Tuesday in Abuja while presenting a paper at the National Project Management Conference, said “the N101billion which the agency facilitated from banks were used to fund about 693 agricultural projects.”

In addition to the funding guarantee he said NIRSAL has “launched the Area Yield Index Insurance Products which had protected about N6.5billion revenue of over 37,399 farmers.”

Abdulhameed said the agency achieved all these through the implementation of sound project management techniques which has resulted in increased agricultural productivity, minimal materials wastage, reduction in labour costs and improvements in cashflow.

Programme Director, National Project Management Conference. Mr Taopheek Babayeju, said “there is an intricate linkage between development and project management; it is this tool that the developed nations and successful organisations used to achieve developmental and business results.

According to him, “the change that we desire as a nation will not come from government but from ordinary people by doing our own little bit to bring about the change we want to see.”
