Nigerian Police Force: DIG Frank Mba’s Sudden Retirement For AIG Tunji Disu’s Appointment Vex Nigerians

The appointment of AIG Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police has sparked controversy, with Nigerians reacting to the sudden retirement of Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Frank Mba. Mba, who joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994, was expected to serve longer, but his retirement is reportedly linked to Disu’s elevation.

Mba’s accelerated promotions, from Inspector in 1994 to DIG in June 2023, were attributed to his strong performance, top cadet record, and PR expertise. In contrast, Disu joined the Police Academy in 1992, making him senior to Mba in terms of entry.

The retirement of Mba and other senior officers, including eight DIGs, is seen as a tradition in the Nigeria Police Force when a junior officer is appointed IGP. This move aims to maintain hierarchy and organizational stability.
