On the 16th of May, 2021, the former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar said that the country needs to grow in unity.
In a statement issued in Abuja, he said, “We have no choice, considering the alternative, which is a calamity that we would not wish to return to.”
According to him, a true Nigerian must be committed to the country’s indivisibility and be respectful of other people’s opinions and ideologies even if they do not align with theirs regardless of their religious or political standing.

He highlighted the utter lack of patriotism that lies in the act of Nigerians terrorizing and abducting other Nigerians and mentioned that such wasn’t the case ten years ago.
He went further to state that the country’s challenges require people to concentrate to solve them rather than divide and argue amongst themselves. He also asked for governors to take initiative and make moves towards resolving issues rather than waiting on Abuja all the time.
“If we succeed as a nation, our successes will resonate beyond our borders. “It will give hope to the Black Diaspora and increase the standing of Black people all over the world. That is why we cannot fail.”
