MD urges FG to sign health insurance bill

The Managing Director of Ultimate Health Management Services, Mr Lekan Ewenla, has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to hasten the signing of the bill which makes health insurance mandatory for citizens.

Ewenla said this in an interview with The PUNCH in Lagos.

He said, “The National Assembly has tried a great deal by passing the bill to make health insurance mandatory for all residents of Nigeria, and as we speak today, that bill is in the Presidency for the assent of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“In that bill, the National Assembly came up with options of fund generation for the sustainability of health insurance, and one of those options was the deduction of certain percentage of the airtime of Nigerians for telecommunications, to subsidise and provide health insurance for Nigerians.

“I want to suggest, considering the fact that the President and this administration is deeply concerned with the wellbeing of Nigerians, the President, in his wisdom, should look at that bill and whatever was delaying it.”
