Man Jumps Into River Osun After Receiving Phone Call

Panic has been caused in Osogbo, Osun State capital after a man, whose identity was not known yet, on Wednesday jumped into River Osun.

According to an eyewitness, the man drove his motorcycle to the middle of Gbodofon bridge, along Gbongan/Osogbo road around 4:19 pm, received a call on his mobile phone, and thereafter threw the phone into the river before he took a plunge.

The incident led to the gathering of a motley crowd which watched helplessly, as a police operative took away a motorcycle with the number plate PKA 915 VI, reportedly driven to the spot by the man.

“I didn’t immediately regard his presence on the bridge as important, but I began to took note of his movement after he brought out his phone and received a call. He was shouting on top of his voice.

“I could not tell what he was saying because of the noise of vehicles moving along the road at the time. He later threw the phone into the river and jumped from the top of the Gbodofon bridge into the Osun river.

“He did not even switch off the ignition of the motorcycle. He only parked and took a call before he jumped into the river. We are all confused. The man had his clothing on before he jumped into the river,” a commercial motorcyclist, Rasaq Olagunju, told Punch Metro.

The spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, also confirmed the incident, saying there was ongoing effort to search for the man.
