Joan Laporta secured the majority of the votes to emerge the winner of the Barcelona presidential election on Sunday, March 7.
Laporta who had 54.3 percent of the 55,611 votes in the election defeated Victor Font ( who had 30 percent) and Toni Freixa (9 percent).
Announcing the results on its official Twitter account, FC Barcelona wrote, “Joan Laporta, new president of FC Barcelona.”
Newsbreakers gathered that Laporta’s first order of business was to reach out to Lionel Messi and his representatives to convince the club legend to remain at the club.
