The Lagos State Government has announced the sealing of more than 137 structures that were illegally constructed across six district offices in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Government on its official Twitter handle, on Monday, the exercise was carried out by the Monitoring and Compliance Unit of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, at various places including Alomosho, Mosan Okunola, Egbe-Idimu, Ikotun, Igando, Agbado Oke-Odo and Ayobo-Ipaja.
The statement explained that the sealed properties, numbering more than 137, were mostly residential buildings that were unlawfully turned to commercial centres without due process.
It read, “No fewer than 137 buildings were sealed last week by the Monitoring and Compliance Unit of Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority. The enforcement took place at six district offices, Alimosho, Mosan Okunola, Egbe- Idimu, Ikotun Igando, Agbado Oke-Odo and Ayobo-Ipaja.
“Buildings that were sealed contravene the state physical planning regulation. The sealed buildings are mostly residential buildings that were converted into commercial use without recourse to physical planning permit laws.
“Also sealed were industrial, institutional and commercial structures, which do not have planning permit. The authority advises property owners and developers in Lagos State to seek the input of professionals in engineering and building.”
