Katsina district head, guard’s killer, Nigerien trans-border drug trafficker, others arrested
The Katsina Police Command on Tuesday paraded 25 suspects, including one suspected bandit alleged to have killed the district head of Yantumaki, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, on June 1, 2020.
The suspect, Yusuf Abdullahi, 20, of Kagara village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, was arrested on December 3.
Speaking at the command’s headquarters in Katsina, Abdullahi said he band four others, currently at large, killed Atiku along with his guard whose name was given as Gambo Isah.
Abdullahi also told journalists during the Tuesday parade that he did not make any money from the attack, insisting that other bandits forced him to partake in the operation.
Also paraded was a Nigerien, Murtala Rabi’u, 30, alleged to be a cross-border drug trafficker.
According to the police, Rabi’u was arrested on November 25 along Kalgo/Koza Road while conveying 10 rolls of neatly packaged parcels of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and 10 sachets of D5 drugs on his motorcycle.
Also paraded were two suspected cult members namely Sani Abdulwaheed of Kofar Janta, Alimi area, Ilorin, Kwara State and Owoade Oyetunji of Ajegunle area, Oyo state.
About 16 suspected vandals whose ages range from 15 to 40 were also paraded at the police command headquarters.
The police accused them of vandalising Government property at Kofar Kaura area, Katsina metropolis.
Three suspects alleged to be members of a syndicate of trans-border car thieves were also paraded.
