Joshua can’t beat Usyk in a rematch – Froch

Anthony Joshua has faced lots of criticisms since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in September. Among those names is former three-time world champion Carl Martin Froch who thinks that Joshua’s mindset was not right and legendary trainer Teddy Atlas, who has slammed the Brit for his mental fragility.

The British heavyweight icon and the newly crowned WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titlist, Usyk, are inching to take a shot for the second time. Earlier in September 2021, Usyk made a shocking change in the heavyweight division by registering an impressive win over Joshua.

Regarding the upcoming rematch, Froch predicted, “I think the question was if Joshua can beat him in a rematch. I don’t think Joshua can beat him. I’ll rephrase that. I don’t think Joshua will beat him.”

He also highlighted the advantages Joshua has, which could certainly work in his favor if he gets inside the ring with a ‘changed mindset.’

“He should be able to, he’s certainly big enough, he’s strong enough, he’s got all the physical attributes. I just don’t think he’s got the right mindset, I think he’s in the wrong mentality. So, unless something’s drastically changed with his mentality on the training camp in a build to the rematch,” said Froch.

Atlas on the other hand claims Joshua ‘accepts losing too easily’ and looks like ‘a guy who has earned too much money’.

“I think Usyk’s gonna win (against Joshua). I can’t go against Usyk, how can I go against the guy, he gives you no reason to,” Atlas said during the latest episode of his podcast ‘The Fight’.

“He was an undefeated Cruiserweight champ and unified all the titles, the best Cruiserweight ever besides Holyfield, he’s an Olympic gold medallist. He doesn’t know how to lose. I think that Joshua is too good a loser.

“He’s a classy guy, I’m not saying I want him to be a sore loser – that says the wrong things. I’m just saying that sometimes it looks like Joshua accepts losing a little too freely, like he did against Ruiz the first time in the Garden, almost like a guy who’s made too much money. Sometimes I just feel that it’s not important enough to him anymore.”

Atlas has trained multiple world champions, including two-time world heavyweight champion Michael Moorer; world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan; world light heavyweight champion Donny LaLonde and world welterweight champion Simon Brown.

However, Joshua has changed many things around his training camp. He has been training with a new team. He has changed the most important factor, his coach. Now, the former champion will enter the ring under the wings of Robert Garcia, who has promised Joshua to assist in getting the best out of him.
