Italy has secured a ticket in the finals of the ongoing Euro 2020 after defeating Spain 4-2 on penalties.
The game had ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time. The Azzuri went into the lead through a beautiful curler from Federico Chiesa before his Juventus teammate, Alvaro Morata restored parity for La Roja in an entertaining clash that almost slipped out of the hands of Italy.
Spain kept pushing for the winner, but Italy with their experienced defensive line struggled to cope with Spain’s false nine formation but survived their onslaught.
Manuel Locatelli, who scored a double against the Swiss in the group stage of the competition could not beat Unai Simon with the first k8ick of the game, but Dani Olmo, who also had a fantastic performance in the match also blasted his kick wide. Morata later lost Spain’s third kick after Gianluigi Donnarruma dived to the right direction to stop him from scoring. This gave Jorgihno, who has been Chelsea’s highest goalscorer from the spot the opportunity to score the final kick that will take Italy to the final, and the defensive midfielder colly sent Simon the wrong way for Italy to book their way to the finals.

Unfortunately, this was Spain’s best performance so far in the tournament, but it was not enough to stop their opponent who is one of the favourites. The young squad is growing after being criticized for their lack of creativity and cutting edge in their first two games.
But what has been seen in their last three games where they scored seven goals, the future is bright for these young lads, who could return Spain to glory again after their 2012 success in the competition.
Italy will now play England or Denmark, who will face each other in the other last-four game on Wednesday in the finals.
