The embattled leader of Yoruba Nation, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, AKA Sunday Igboho, has been returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, the Benin Republic after the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou adjourned his extradition trial till Friday, July 23, 2021.
The embattled human rights activist was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou while trying to catch a flight to Germany.
He is currently being tried for obtaining a Beninese passport without being a citizen. The Nigerian Government had declared him wanted and want him extradited.
After the hearing, the government lawyer didn’t address journalists, while Igbòho’s lawyer, explained that “this is not the best time to say anything on the case” but expressed optimism.
Igboho’s supporters had gathered at the court as they await their leader around 10 am. The sitting was later held amidst a tense atmosphere as a large number of supporters witnessed the hearing.
Many of the supporters, who did not know when the Yoruba rights activist arrived in court, rushed into the courtroom to see him.
It won’t, therefore, be a surprise to see them again tomorrow in their large numbers at the premises.
