I Wish We Had Encouraged Dangote to Build the Refineries Years Ago – Okonjo-Iweala

The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that she wished the Federal Government had encouraged Alhaji Aliko Dangote to build his refinery years ago.

Okonjo-Iweala said this during her meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, March 15.

While answering a question from the press on the Dangote Refinery; the largest single-train refinery in the world, she said, “I wish we had done it years ago. If we had done it years ago and encouraged Alhaji Dangote, who is doing a good thing, we’d be producing our own fuel today.”

Okonjo-Iweala also discussed other issues at the meeting including improving Nigeria’s share of global trade, developing Nigeria’s Services sector, COVID-19, attracting investment; training & capacity building, safe schools, among others.
