Jose Peseiro spoke to Francis Uzoho over the Goalkeepeer’s confidence before he entrusting him with first team duties in all four games under the new Super Eagles coach, Goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorounmu confirmed to FL.
Uzoho was the subject of scathing criticisms after Nigeria’s world cup qualifying playoff fiasco against Ghana, and particularly in the 1-1 result in Abuja.
The goalkeeper suffered a confidence dip and was a doubt for future National team invitations, but after his appointment, Peseiro reached out to Uzoho.
“I spoke to him and the Coach Peseiro also talked to Uzoho, we tried to help him build his confidence back up,” Shorunmu told FL.
“After the match against Ghana, he almost lost his confidence, but we needed to reassure him.
“We told him, If we didn’t think you were good enough we wouldn’t have invited you again,” Shorunmu explained.
The former Super Eagles Goalkeeper also spoke on Adebayo Adeleye and Adeyinka Adewale, who were second and third choice respectively.
“Everybody will get their shot to prove what they’re capable of, I can assure that.”
Shorunmu praised the goalkeepers and believes they’ll give Uzoho a good fight in the competition for places in the team.
“I’m sure everytime Uzoho looks at them he’ll know that he also needs to keep his performance at top level, those guys are fantastic.”
