Gunmen attack convoy of Sen Ifeanyi Ubah in Anambra, kill aides

Gunmen attack convoy of Sen Ifeanyi Ubah in Anambra, kill aides: Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy attacked at Enugu-Ukwu.

He was ambushed by heavily armed assassins who opened fire on his convoy.

Some of his aides were killed including some police officers.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah managed to escape as his bullet proof car was riddled with bullets.

The attack has further raised the question of the insecurity in the state with attacks on the citizenry on the rise.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah represents Anambra South senatorial zone, and contested in the 2019 Anambra Gubernatorial elections, and was the only candidate to win two Local Government Areas aside Gov. Soludo who emerged winner.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is also the CEO of Capital Oil and hails from Enugu. His attack has further reawakened the insecurity in the state since Governor Chukwuma Soludo took over from Willie Obiano.

Hon. Chris Azubogu, Senator Ubah’s opponent in the 2023 elections had a similar experience when his convoy was attacked in Anambra shortly before the Governorship elections in 2021. Hon. Azubogu was not in the convoy at the time of the attack but he lost some his aides in the attack.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo was also attacked during a campaign rally before the Anambra Governorship Election. He also lost some policemen and had his inlaw and a commissioner at the time kidnapped by the attackers.

A sitting House Of Assembly member was also kidnapped and beheaded in Anambra months ago.

The growing list of attacks in the state has continued to put the state in the spotlight as a hotbed of insecurity.

Anambra used to be a state known for its relative space, but with the attacks it may have lost its position as one of the peaceful states in the country
