GOVERNOR UMO ENO PLEDGES CONTINUED INVESTMENT IN AKWA IBOM STATE’S EDUCATION SECTOR

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s education sector. He made this pledge during the 131st inaugural lecture at the University of Uyo.

The event, hosted by Professor Ubong Umoh, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, featured a lecture titled “Cause, Course and Consequences of Change and Continuity in the Small Wars of Nigeria’s Niger Delta.” Governor Eno, in his address, highlighted various initiatives implemented by his government to support education, including remodeling of primary schools, improved subvention to the state’s university, construction of internal roads and landscaping in various schools, providing bursaries and scholarships to students, and offering grants to students with disabilities.

The State Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga commended Professor Ubong Umoh for his outstanding contributions, describing him as a valuable asset to the state executive council. The Governor’s representative, Professor Eno Ibanga, echoed these sentiments, praising Professor Umoh’s sterling qualities.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Professor OtoAbasi Akpan, presented a citation on the inaugural lecturer. Professor Ubong Umoh, a renowned expert in Military History, delivered a thought-provoking lecture, tracing the history of the Niger Delta crisis and other small wars that have shaped Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Samuel Gbadebo Adewumi, lauded Governor Umo Eno for appointing several University of Uyo alumni to his cabinet and for his various projects and support to the institution. He also commended Professor Ubong Umoh for his insightful inaugural lecture and encouraged students to leverage his scholarly work.

The event featured the presentation of gifts to Professor Umoh and a procession led by the Vice Chancellor.
