FRSC warns motorists about speeding as crash kills two in Bauchi

Two persons were killed and six others sustained varying degrees of injury in a crash that occurred in Bauchi on Sunday.

It was gathered that the crash occurred around 9.53am close to the Durum Market along the Bauchi-Kano Highway in Bauchi.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the crash to our correspondent on Sunday.

He said the vehicle, with number plate GSH 42 AA, was driven by one Ibrahim, adding that the crash was caused by speed limit violation and tyre blowout.

Abdullahi said, “The crash occurred about one kilometre after the Durum Market along Bauchi-Kano highway. It was caused by speed limit violation and tyre blowout.

“There were eight persons involved in the accident comprising five male adults, two female adults and one female child.

“Our men got to the scene of the crash around 12 minutes after we received a call and rescued the victims to hospital.

“When they got to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment and confirmation, a medical doctor confirmed two male adults dead.

“Six others made up of three male adults, two female adults and one male child sustained varying degrees of injury.

“The corpses of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the ATBUTH, after which they will be released to their loved ones for burial.”

The FRSC boss said the obstruction on the road was cleared to allow for free flow of traffic to motorists.

He warned motorists thus, “Speed kills, so I call on drivers to avoid it. They should avoid practices that endanger human lives and property.

“More lives and property will be saved if they drive within the approved speed limits.”
