Erosion sacks Imo community after downpour

Imo State mAP

Erosion has sacked the people of Okai village in the Eziama community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Eziama is the hometown of a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, who represents Isiala Mbano LGA in the parliament.

The erosion is a result of Monday’s downpour in the state.

One of the victims of the flood, Emmanuel Nwike, told our correspondent that his house, shop, and his kinsmen’s properties were affected.

He added that a motorcycle was carried away by erosion.

Nwike said, “Our house, my shop and the whole of Okai village in Eziama have been overrun by erosion. No help. Tomorrow now they will ask us to vote for them in an election. Election my foot. People are stranded as I speak to you. The destruction was many.”

Our correspondent saw video footage where the flood was seen sweeping away people’s properties.
