Don’t let your guards down, Medical Guild advises Lagosians
Doctors in the employment of the Lagos State under the aegis of Medical Guild have advised residents of the state against letting down their guard as the festive season approaches.
The Chairman of the Guild, Dr Oluwajimi Sodipo, at a briefing on Monday, said there was the need for residents to guard against the fourth wave of COVID-19.
He said, “The risks associated with proceeding into the Christmas period without caution is too high. Members of the public should ensure safe gathering, vaccination and other preventive measures to protect themselves against COVID-19 infection.
“Citizens should also get vaccinated; various studies had shown that vaccines are effective against various variants of COVID-19, including omicron.”
Sodipo said the annual scientific conference and annual general meeting of the Guild which commenced on Sunday would end on December 10.
“The theme, ‘Tackling the challenges of human resources for health in Lagos State,’ is aimed at analysing the manpower challenge and ways to retain them amid lure of brain drain to other countries.
“The pull factors are increasing, especially with the burden of COVID-19 on health systems in Europe, most particularly the new omicron variant,” he said.
Sodipo added that the conference would address urgent issues affecting doctors and other health care professionals, especially as they recorded some deaths in the last two years.
