The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli, has died from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.
The Tanzanian Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, announced this in an address on state television on Wednesday, March 17.
She said, “It is with deep regret that I inform you that today… we lost our brave leader, the president of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli.”
According to the Vice President, there would be 14 days of national mourning and flags would fly at half-mast. Magufuli, who was first elected into office in 2015 was serving his second term when he died.
