Glasgow Rangers’ legend Marvin Andrews believes Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey is destined to have a ‘very big future’, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 22-year-old defender established himself as a regular last season with a string of impressive performances.
Bassey was immense in the Light Blues’ incredible Europa League run and was the standout performer in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville, where he was named the best defender despite The Gers losing the title on penalties.
The Nigeria international has attracted transfer interests but Andrews hopes he can stay and form a strong defensive unit alongside Connor Goldson.
“It is very important, the defence,” Andrews told Glasgow Live. “Big Goldson has been tremendous. Calvin Bassey is strong, athletic. He’s only 22 as well.
“If he can avoid any serious injuries then he can go on to have a very big future ahead of him. There’s a bit of interest but you were going to get that. They reached a European final and made their mark.”
The Leicester City academy product made a total of 50 appearances for The Gers and had six assists in all competitions.
