Catalan giant, FC Barcelona have announced shirt numbers for 2021/22 with Lionel Messi’s 10 and Antoine Griezmann’s 7 given to Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele.
This was revealed by the club on their website on Wednesday morning as part of the procedure for the 2021/22 campaign.
The number 7 and 10 jersey numbers became main talking points as the no.10 had, of course, become synonymous with Lionel Messi, who will go down as arguably the best player in footballing history.
Messi has after a historic stint at Barcelona, departed the Spanish outfit over the summer for PSG. This, of course, meant that Messi’s famed no.10 shirt would be up for grabs in the future.
Fati, like Messi, is a product of La Masia and would burst onto the first-team picture at a very young age. Despite recent injury woes, Fati has already featured 43 times for Barcelona’s side at the age of just 18.
It is now left to see if the youngster will be able to deal with the pressure of taking over Messi’s number.
Antoine Griezmann had previously donned this number during the 2020/21 season. However, the Frenchman has now departed for former club, Atletico Madrid on loan, making the number to be available.
Coincidentally, the number was picked up by his fellow Frenchman.
