Anambra: Uba hired no one as assassin

The Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command has said there is no suspect in their custody who has confessed that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) Andy Uba hired him as an assassin.

This is following recent confessions of an arrested gunman in the state purportedly based on a confession by a gunman arrested by the police, said the suspect was allegedly hired by the candidate of the APC to destabilise the state.

However, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Anambra State Command, DCP Aderemi Adeoye, who spoke on behalf of CP Echeng Echeng, absolved Sen. Uba of the claim.

According to him, the trending news which was entitled “My gang was paid millions by Andy Uba to kill and maim in Anambra” is fake because no suspect in its custody has made such a confession to the police.

CP Echeng stated that such a disclosure would have led to the questioning of the implicated person as no one is above the law.

He, therefore, urged the general public, particularly, the good people of Anambra State, to disregard the news.

Andy Uba escapes death after accidental discharge from Police officer

Meanwhile, Uba recently escaped death by a whisker after an accidental discharge by a policeman missed him by a hair’s breadth.

This occurred while he was addressing a rally at the Ekwulobia Township Stadium in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

The gunshot which was just about a foot off the position of Uba shocked the crowd who turned out to receive the governorship candidate.

A stunned Uba was heard saying in confusion: “My friend what is it? What is it?”

A television cameraman who was close to the cop told our correspondent that he suspected the policeman was drunk.

It was gathered that a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police who was at the occasion had taken up the matter to ensure proper disciplinary measures were given the erring cop.

That didn’t stop Uba from continuing with the rally. He told his supporters that he was in the governorship race to liberate the state from the shackles of underdevelopment.

“My first assignment is Enugu-Onitsha road. It is impassable. Work will begin on this road soonest. That is the essence of our party being at the centre.”
