Ambazonia attack: Taraba border is porous, we need Naval base in Manga

Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku has reiterated his call for a Naval base at Manga, which is close to the Taraba border with Cameroon in order to aid security.

This is following the killing of a village head in Manag and some other community members by a separatist group referred to as Ambazonia soldiers.

Speaking while featuring as a guest on Channels TV on Thursday evening, Ishaku said he had made a request for a Naval base in that neighbourhood that could respond to an emergency within five minutes, but the base was set up somewhere else.

He lauded the security agencies for their cooperation as they have maintained order in the community.

He, therefore, called for manning of the state’s border by the military especially.

“Our border is very long. That is why it must be manned by security, especially the military 247,” he added.

He also lamented that the Amabzonia soldiers are now using the Tarab people as should after being chased out of their country by Cameroonian security.

When asked if there were no customs or immigration on the borders that allowed free movement, he said there are just one or two immigration officers there.

He added that because they were not well equipped, they left the border after exhausting their bullets during fire exchange.
