The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday launched its governorship campaigns in Uyo with the promise to bring economic prosperity to the state if the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Nsima Ekere is voted into power.

Speaking at the rally, the APC Governorship candidate in the state, Mr Nsima Ekere, said that his vision was anchored on a five-point agenda if voted as the governor.

Ekere said that APC led Federal Government had the most sophisticated social protection programme in the history of the country, adding that his administration would domesticate same in the state, if elected.
He said that Akwa Ibom people had no business with poverty as the state was blessed with abundant human and natural resources

Ekere said that APC government would return the state to the path of prosperity come May 29 when the party takes over government house.

“Today marks the beginning of our march to a new dawn. You are here because you believe in change, because you believe that Akwa Ibom must be taken to the next level.
“The change we are bringing to Akwa Ibom will be anchored on five pillars: It shall be anchored on the economic prosperity of Akwa Ibom.
“For a start, we shall enable the economy by investing in public works to thrive and create enabling environment for investment. We shall invest in education, health and social protection.
“With all the endowments that God has given us, we shall banish poverty in this state and build on the achievements of past governors.
“Campaigns should be about performance. Please do not bring divisions among Akwa Ibom people.
“Let us be careful that politics does not divide us as a people. Politics is not about religion; preach peace, unity, hard work; stop lying and spreading lies over the state and causing problems,” Ekere said.
Ekere assured Akwa Ibom people that his government would introduce reforms that would lead to prosperity.
The APC governorship candidate urged political parties operating in the state not to bring division in through their campaigns.
He said: “Please do not bring division to Akwa Ibom State during your campaigns.
“Let us be careful to ensure that politics does not divide us,” he said.
Ekere reiterated that his administration would create the much needed economic boom for Akwa Ibom in addition to strategic investment in health, social protection and infrastructure.

He said that the occasion signaled the beginning of a march toward peace and development and called on the PDP to allow the people of the state to enjoy the prevailing peace in the state.
The APC governorship candidate also urged the clergy not to take sides in the politics of the state but to continue to pray for the overall development of the country.
In his goodwill message, Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo said that as the heart of the South South region, Akwa Ibom had been looked upon to lead in the transformation of the region.

Obaseki expressed regret that the state experienced a downturn in development under the PDP after the boom and transformatory administration of former governor Akpabio.
The Edo governor urged Akwa Ibom people to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr Nsima Ekere to ensure that the state was not left to be in the opposition.

In a remark, a former governor of the state and ex-Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari would win the Presidential poll.

Akpabio urged eligible voters to vote for the APC candidates in order to return the state to the centre of Nigerian politics.
