Afghanistan President flees as Taliban enter Kabul

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has reportedly fled the country as the Taliban entered the capital Kabul and met little resistance.

The Taliban have been capturing more cities in Afghanistan since the U.S. started pulling its troops from the country.

American President Joe Biden has said he would not reverse that stance.

The BBC reports that Mr Ghani is bound for Tajikistan.

The Taliban are believed to have seized the presidential palace in Kabul with a Taliban spokesperson saying their fighters have been ordered to prevent looting in the city and allow safe passage for anyone wanting to leave.

Many experts had predicted that with U.S. forces leaving Afghanistan, the Taliban would retake the country in about six months and form a government there.

The Taliban, who promote strict Islamic Shariah law, governed Afghanistan until the U.S. invasion in 2001 after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack in the U.S.
