Egypt Head Coach Carlos Queiroz has blamed officiating in the AFCON 2021 group opener against Nigeria majorly for his side’s defeat on Tuesday.
Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 courtesy a 30th minute strike by Kelechi Iheanacho, and although he admits his team showed the Nigerians “too much respect”, Queiroz insists VAR aided the win.
Speaking in the post-match presser the 68 year-old said the VAR officials failed to do their job and denied a “clear penalty that my grandmother can see and she’s not even here”.
Egypt registered only two shots on target in the entire game and created only 27 dangerous moments in the game – 36 less than Austin Eguavoen’s side.
